Tania K. Gray
Tania K. Gray works exclusively in the area of family law and appellate practice. In addition to serving the needs of her clients, Ms. Gray is very active with the John Marshall Law School as an adjunct faculty member, a mentor for law students, and an Alumni Advisory Council member.
Ms. Gray was admitted to the Illinois Bar in May, 2004. Ms. Gray earned her Juris Doctor from the John Marshall Law School in June, 2003. During law school, Ms. Gray clerked for the Cook County State’s Attorney Criminal Appeals Division, writing appellate briefs on behalf of the prosecution for the State of Illinois and was successful in affirming numerous lower court decisions. She has extended her experience gained from the Appeals Division into her current practice and has written numerous appellate briefs and has argued before the Appellate Court. Ms. Gray has also appealed to the Supreme Court of Illinois.
Ms. Gray previously clerked for the Committee on Finance Chairman Edward Burke and worked on such projects as the enactment of the ban on mercury ordinance, mandatory bathrooms at all gas stations and the newly enacted mobile defibrillators seen in the Daley Center. Ms. Gray served as the Vice President of the John Marshall Law School Student Bar Association for the 2001-2002 school year and as her student Bar Association class representative from 2000-2001.
Ms. Gray earned her Bachelor of Science from Miami University of Ohio in June, 2000, majoring in business with a minor in criminology. During college, Ms. Gray was the Coordinator for the Oxford Mediation Center, and coordinated the mediation center with the Oxford Police Department in order to provide an alternative to court via the usage of mediation. Prior to the appointment as Coordinator, she was a mediator at the Butler County Juvenile Court Status Offender Mediation Program which dealt with cases such as assault, truancy, incorrigible and unruly children.
Ms. Gray is currently a member of the Illinois, Chicago and Women’s Bar Association of Illinois. Ms. Gray was the Co-chair of the Young Lawyer’s Section of Family Law of the Chicago Bar Association for two years and served as a Special Projects Coordinator for the Chicago Bar Association.
